Pipeline Services & Pump Stations
Mit Schwung zum Empfänger
Our pipeline networks is driven by a total of three pumping stations to ensure timely and round the clock delivery of crude oil and refined oil products to Rotterdam, Amsterdam, and Vlissingen, connecting to other major pipelines in Europe. For safety the oil is subjected to a rigorously-minitored increase in pressure at these stations so that it gainsthe necessary momentum to reach its destination.
The first pumping station, the so-called head pumping station, is located at the beginning of the pipeline in Europoort - Rotterdam. The other two pressure-boosting stations are located in Maasvlakte and Botlek & Vondelingenplaat. The Botlek pumping station, which is connected to the Botlek tank, can also be used to feed mineral oil stored in the tank into the Benma pipeline as needed, and then pump it onward towards other local ports in Rotterdam.
The RAPL pipeline, a 102 km, 34-inch pipeline that transports crude oil directly from Rotterdam's storage terminals, operated by Benma BV alongside the port, and running towards Antwerp, is operated with only one pumping station from our station in Rotterdam due to its length and topographical route. The pressure generated here is sufficient to effectively supply the receiving refinery with petroleum products.
The technical capacity, combined with comprehensive planning and the resulting pumping programs, enables a maximum annual throughput of 11.3 or 6.8 million tons of mineral oil through the RRP or RAPL pipelines, respectively. The maximum operating pressure immediately downstream of a pumping station, which is continuously monitored for safety reasons and operates at this throughput volume, is 65 bar.
